I made this image in May 2014 at Race Point Lighthouse in Provincetown Cape Cod MA at sunset. I really liked the way the out-going tide made the foreground pattern, and the subtle light coming off the lighthouse. A silhouette photograph couldn’t be easier to make. Just meter for the brightest spot as I did for this image. The only post processing adjustment was for contrast.
The lighthouse at Race Point, Cape Cod’s third light station, went into service on November 5, 1816. The rubblestone tower is 45 feet tall, and was one of the nation’s earliest with revolving lights. The station has been restored by the Cape Cod Chapter of the American Lighthouse Foundation, and both the keeper’s house and the whistle house are available for vacation rental.Race Point Light was added to the National Register of Historic Places as Race Point Light Station on June 15, 1987.
